‘Jersey Shore’ continues, just like Ebola Virus

‘Jersey Shore’ season two

I thought it was over. For weeks, I’d avoided the show, but something told me I had to at least take a peek at “Jersey Shore.” I had no idea who my friends were talking about, and thought immediately that interventions were going to be necessary. After I’d watched a few episodes, though full of mindless drivel, I felt I had to watch it all the way through.

After the finale aired, I was relieved that this show, which violates the 8th amendment’s prohibition on cruel and unusual punishments, was finally over. However, “Jersey Shore” season two is on the table — and it’s going to happen, with or without Snooki and The Situation. It appears talks regarding the “Jersey Shore” season two salaries for the current cast are getting a lot more tense than a tax debt negotiation settlement. Cast members are holding out for more money, MTV says it’s the final offer.

The replacements

I have read that so far today, the cast was offered $ 5,000 per episode and turned it down flat. MTV offered – way more than these chimps deserve – $ 10,000 per episode, and they still aren’t accepting it. It doesn’t look like they’re going to get offered another penny. Any cast members who accept the current offer will be signed, and the others will be sent on their way.

It’s possible that the first seasons’ cast members are going to get the unceremonious boot between their cheeks, figuratively speaking. The Chicago Sun-Times reports that an MTV executive said:

“Finding obnoxious, pushy, trash-talking idiots who want to be on TV is as easy as falling off a log.”

And that executive is exactly right. In fact, when I first heard of “Jersey Shore” I assumed that it would include a different group of self-proclaimed guidos and guidettes each season, kind of like “Real World.” I think MTV is right to stick to their guns and not offer more money. People will still watch, even though it’s not a good show, at all.
